Measuring What Changes: PREMAZ Partners With Dr Alka Patel for a New Brain Health Study
PREMAZ is partnering with Dr Alka Patel on a six week brain health study in Knightsbridge, bringing objective memory measurement into personalised care. The programme will explore changes in cognitive performance alongside sleep, stress and recovery, helping participants better understand their progress.

Measuring What Changes: PREMAZ Partners With Dr Alka Patel for a New Brain Health Study
Prema Cognition is partnering with longevity and lifestyle medicine doctor Alka Patel to introduce objective cognitive measurement into a new brain health case study programme in Knightsbridge, London.
The programme brings together PREMAZ precision memory assessment, EXOMIND brain stimulation, biological age testing, cortisol rhythm analysis and continuous wearable data. Together, these measures will give participants a broader view of how their cognitive performance, stress response, sleep and recovery change across the programme.
The partnership is built around a simple principle: when patients invest in their brain health, they should be able to understand whether meaningful change is taking place.
Measuring first, then interpreting what changes
Many people become aware of subtle changes in their cognitive performance long before these changes would be picked up through traditional clinical assessment.
They may still be functioning well at work and at home, but notice that their focus is less consistent, they may have difficulty finding words in conversation, find that decisions require more effort, mood and reactivity is variable, and their ability to operate under pressure reduces.
Dr Alka’s Brain Health Study has been designed for people experiencing this gap between appearing highly functional but feeling subjectively less sharp than usual.
Ten participants will complete a structured 6 week programme. The programme includes six EXOMIND sessions, regular consultations with Dr Alka and a range of measurements covering biological age, cortisol levels, memory, HRV, sleep and recovery.
EXOMIND is a non-invasive brain stimulation device that uses ExoTMS, a form of transcranial magnetic stimulation. It delivers targeted magnetic pulses to the dorso-lateral pre-frontal cortex area of the brain associated with various brain functions including mood regulation, executive function, emotional control and memory.
Rather than relying solely on how participants feel at the beginning and end, the programme will establish a baseline measurement using PREMAZ cognitive testing, and repeat several measurements throughout the process. This creates an opportunity to examine whether the changes a participant experiences are also reflected in their data.
“People often notice changes in their cognitive performance before traditional assessments can detect them. PREMAZ gives us a way to measure those subtle changes objectively and understand how cognition responds to intervention alongside the other markers we’re tracking throughout the programme.” - Dr Alka Patel
What the partnership means for patients
The most important benefit for participants is greater visibility into their own brain health.
Patients are often asked to judge progress through broad questions such as whether they feel they are remembering things better or feel distracted or as if they are losing concentration. These experiences matter, and they can also be affected by sleep, stress, normal day to day variation and the natural desire for an intervention to have worked. This programme adds objective measurements to that conversation.
Participants will be able to understand their cognitive starting point, observe how their performance changes across the six weeks and discuss those results directly with Dr Alka. Rather than receiving isolated scores without context, each participant will receive a personalised interpretation that considers what they have noticed alongside what their measurements show.
The intention is not to reduce brain health to one score. It is to give patients and clinicians better information with which to have a meaningful conversation.
“Our cognitive abilities underpin so much of how we perform day to day, from memory and focus to logical reasoning and quick decision-making. PREMAZ allows us to measure subtle changes in cognitive performance over time, bringing the same objective approach to brain health that we already expect in other areas of health and performance.” - Dr Julia Cooney, Founder and CEO of Prema Cognition
About Prema Cognition: Prema Cognition is the cognitive health company behind PREMAZ, a digital cognitive assessment developed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Memory Lab. Built on more than a decade of Cambridge research, PREMAZ measures memory precision, a sensitive marker of subtle cognitive change, to support earlier detection and longitudinal monitoring of cognitive health. Founded by medical doctor Dr Julia Cooney, Prema Cognition translates cutting-edge cognitive neuroscience into a scalable platform for clinical and research use. PREMAZ supports clinics and research programmes in the UK and US, providing a more sensitive and measurable approach to preventative brain health and cognitive research.
